some background

I am a digital artist living in Philadelphia. Just moved here, actually. I went to Penn State, where I earned my BFA degree concentrating in New Media. The first Christmas I remember was when I was five, the year my family bought our first PC. Ever since, I have grown into a self-professed nerd. Through my art practice, I try to explore relationships with modern technology. I am interested in the precedents formed with emerging technologies, and what we expect from our interactions. I really dig hobby electronics and the independent game scene. They are prime examples of using technology in ways that we may have not been exposed in the mainstream. I spent some of this past summer at the Smithsonian teaching 6th graders how to make video games (part of their Summer Camp program). It was a strage melding of entertainment and learning, and it really blew me away. I wish someone would have taught me math by creating video games.

I do a little bit of everything. While at Penn State, I have worked as a web designer and an digital artist, continuing my art practice through a collaborative research group called StudioLab. Check them out. They are working on some pretty crazy stuff. I made their website, and had a hand in a lot of the projects there. They just recently became an officially recognized research institute at Penn State.

This is where you come in. Like I said, I just moved to Philadelphia and am a stranger in a new land. I'm currently looking for a great place where I can work with some creative people. If you want to work together, send me an email. I would be glad to hear from you.
