Hammer Time
Arduino Scavenged Hardware. 2011
Hammer Time was created is a kinetic sculpture that was part of a protest show at Penn State, hosted by the Penn State Exhibiting Artists Association. The goal of the show was to raise awareness of the art scene at the school, and to petition for a more open policy toward displaying art on Penn State's main campus. The exhibition took place in a room adjacent to the office of the Dean of the Arts & Architechture College. My piece is a hammer connected to an Arduino controlled motor. Every two minutes, the motor would turn on, winding the spool and picking up the hammer, only to slam it into the pedastool seconds later. The purpose was to serve as a constant reminder to the administration in the immediate area, as well as to audibly pull anyone passing by into the space.
